SAN ANTONIO — A convicted sex offender was sentenced to life in federal prison Friday for having sex with a 14-year-old San Antonio girl in the men's restroom at the Alamo, among other places.

Charles Wayne Carmony, 43, of Kentucky, duped the girl into believing he was 19 when they had sex at the Alamo and in movie theaters around the city. He posted sexual images of her in an Internet chat room, bragging that he was in one image having sex with the girl.

Carmony pleaded guilty to production of child pornography in exchange for the dismissal of a count of traveling across state lines to have sex with a minor. Previously, he was given probation for having sex with another 14-year-old girl in Kentucky.

During Friday's hearing, Carmony apologized for lying to the San Antonio girl and her family while carrying on the relationship, the San Antonio Express-News reported in Friday's online edition.

The victim, now 17, told U.S. District Judge Fred Biery that the relationship "destroyed my trust in men."

"I look at people differently. ... I fight with guys a lot," she said. "He led me to believe that he really loved me. Before he got arrested, we were trying for a baby."

Biery rejected a call from Carmony's lawyer for a 25-year sentence. Even if Carmony's sentence is overturned on appeal, the judge ordered that he serve a lifetime under federal supervision.
