from www.washingtonexaminer.com – A Gar-Field High School teacher has been charged with having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student, Prince William County Police said.

Tina Marie Amato, 27, of Fredericksburg, was charged with two counts of indecent liberties, crimes against nature and use of a communications system to facilitate offenses.

The relationship with the male student lasted for about a year before school officials became aware of the relationship Friday and notified law enforcement officials, police said. Authorities learned about Amato’s actions when a fellow teacher confiscated the student’s cell phone and discovered text messages between him and Amato.

Amato began working at the Woodbridge school in September 2008 and taught English. She has been placed on administrative leave.

Amato was held without bond and her next court date is scheduled for May 25.
