Tennessee- Nashville strip clubs may soon be able to serve beer.
Under current city regulations, customers have to bring their own beer and liquor. Clubs are only allowed to serve mixers, juice and soda.
A bill proposed by At-Large Metro Councilman Jerry Maynard [pictured] would change that. It would allow current establishments to become Beer Caberet's that can serve beer while having topless dancing. Both employees and customers would have to be 21 and older.
Supporters say the change would bring in extra tax money. They also say it's safer to have bartenders serving beer than customers bringing in their own.
The Beer Caberets would be licensed by the Metro Beer Board. The remaining strip clubs would continue to be inspected by the Sexual Oriented Business Licensing Board.
The Metro Councilman who chairs the committee that oversees the beer board says that would bee too much to handle.
"They can not check the establishments in this city they way they need to cause they don't have the resources," said Metro Councilman Michael Craddock.
The Council will give the bill it's first of three votes next Tuesday.
