Louisiana- A Bastrop man and woman were arrested after deputies with the Morehouse Parish Sheriff’s Office found allegedly obscene material at a video store on Grabault Road.
Lt. Keith Robertson said the MPSO recently received information regarding adult material of an obscene nature being sold at the Grabault Video Store. Detectives provided 4th District Court Judge with evidence deemed sufficient to issue a search warrant. When the warrant was served last Thursday, merchandise apparently in violation of state laws regarding obscene material were found at the store. Marvin Ray, 69, 7479 Grabault Road, owner and operator of Grabault Video and Michelle A. Brewster, 39, 9356 McCowin Road, sales clerk were arrested on charges of obscenity.
Fourth District Attorney Jerry Jones said Ray, who plead guilty in 1993 to two charges of indecent behavior of a juvenile, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
“State law is very clear about what constitutes obscene material,” Jones said. “There is no question the merchandise seized yesterday meets those requirements.”
In addition to the alleged obscene merchandise seized when the warrant was served was a list of customers.
Louisiana Revised Statute 14:106.1 states that “No person shall knowingly and intentionally promote an obscene device … designed or marketed as useful primarily for the stimulation of human genital organs … for the purpose of sale or resale.”
Jones also said the statute cover so-called “fun parties,” where the hostess or host of the party and the dealer of the merchandise is in violation of the law and may be arrested, facing a possible fine of no less than $1,000 or imprisoned for no less than six months, if convicted.
Ray was still in the MPSO jail under a $10,000 bond. Brewster has posted bond.
