from www.triblocal.com - An attempted burglary and a foot chase that ended in a backyard pool led to the arrest of an 18-year-old Arlington Heights man who was found without pants.

Paul M. Padlo, 18, of the 0 to 100 block of North Rammer Avenue and his girlfriend, Kate Jordan, 17, of the 800 block of South Belmont Avenue, were both charged with residential burglary. Police believe Jordan was an accomplice and is being charged as an adult.

Around 5:15 a.m. Sunday, the pair allegedly pulled up to a condo on the 800 block of South McKinley, police said.

Padlo allegedly tried to slip into an unlocked sliding glass door that would only open partially. Police believe he took off his pants to more easily squeeze inside the small space.

He was apparently looking for prescription medication at the home, which belonged to a relative of Jordan, Sgt. Mike Hernandez said.

Padlo’s alleged burglary was interrupted when the resident caught him in the home, and he fled. The resident then called police and provided them with a description.

Police quickly arrived at the scene and spooked Jordan, who sped off, leaving Padlo behind, police said.

Officers spotted Padlo nearby and pursued him before losing sight of him in the backyards of several residences. Police continued the search, eventually locating him on the 1000 block of East Rockwell Street when he inexplicably jumped into a backyard pool, Hernandez said.

Soaking wet and wearing blue boxers and a T-shirt, Padlo was arrested.

Later, Jordan allegedly called her relative to ask about the burglary. Wondering how she knew about the incident in the first place, the relative called police and Jordan was brought in for questioning, police said.

Her story quickly fell apart, Hernandez said, and she was also arrested.
