from www.usatoday.com – Police arrested 184 suspects and rescued more than 200 children in 30 countries with the breakup of an international child pornography ring centered in The Netherlands, Radio Netherlands reports.
Arrests have taken place in Britain, the USA, Australia and Spain. Europol Director Rob Wainwright says authorities identified an additional 486 suspects and more arrests are likely.
Radio Netherlands says the break in the 3-year-old case came in 2009 when Dutch authorities arrested Amir I, the brains behind the Internet forum Boylover.net, which had about 70,000 members at its peak.
Radio Netherlands says the forum, which Amir I ran from his home, was not used to distribute pornography but to facilitate the exchange of photos and videos.
The 37-year-old Israeli-born Dutch citizen has cooperated with authorities since his arrest, allowing police to trace 71,000 IP addresses in 109 countries from his computer.
Tuesday, Amir I pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography and sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy in Brazil. He could face up to three and a half years in prison.
