New Zealand- Some Auckland City councillors are dismissing Steve Crow’s mayoral aspirations as a joke, but the man behind the Boobs on Bikes parade says he is serious about wanting to run New Zealand’s biggest city.

Crow is New Zealand’s king of pornography and is the brains behind the hugely successful Erotica expo.

Now he is hoping to enter the Auckland’s mayoral race in 2007, saying that he is “very serious about it” and sees no conflict between the way he earns a living and a role in local politics.

“People don’t question that Mr Hubbard’s an expert at making cornflakes, that’s what he does, he runs a business. I run a business,” he says.

While some have laughed off Crow’s announcement, others say it would be inappropriate for someone involved in the pornography industry to be a mayor.

But Crow does not see a problem.

“I say that’s absurd. Stop worrying about things like that, worrying about running the city is what we are talking about…Mr Hubbard doesn’t dump truckloads of cornflakes in Queen Street,” he says.

Present Mayor and breakfast cereal business owner Dick Hubbard declined to comment.
