from www.wtop.com - A prolific peeping tom pleaded guilty on Wednesday to multiple charges after police say he secretly took nude photos of hundreds of unsuspecting women.
Prosecutors say 35-year-old Charles Novak had 2,282 video clips of 260 different women. Some of the women have been identified, but many have not.
Novak, who's been in jail since January, was sentenced to ten years in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court on Wednesday and ordered to register as a sex offender.
"He has turned my home into a prison," one victim said in court before sentencing. She went on to say she lives in fear now and doesn't let her husband leave the house at night.
The Crofton man was arrested in December after a woman told police she found a man sitting in a car in her garage. Officers searched the area and found Novak, who had a camera with videos of nude women who didn't appear to be aware they were being recorded.
Prosecutors say Novak used sophisticated camera equipment to record women doing ordinary things like undressing for bed, getting out of the shower, or sleeping. He got to know their routines and would film them from outside their homes, or sometimes sneak inside.
A search of Novak's home turned up camera equipment, a computer and hard drives. Police also found 27 pairs of women's underwear, including bras and panties they say he stole from the homes of women he was spying on.
Novak had been facing dozens of charges, but agreed to plead guilty to one count of first degree burglary, two counts of third degree burglary, and seven counts of prurient intent.
"I know what I did was wrong, unjustified, unbecoming...unforgiving," Novak said. "I will tell you for sure this will never ever happen again."
Novak's attorney says his client is obsessive-compulsive, knows he needs help, and wants to get help.
