In the chapter titled Going to Extremes, Devereaux talks about how she met Rob Black. It was on the shoot of Cellar Dwellers which Black was shooting in New York. Black states that he flew talent such as Alicia Rio, Heather Lee, Steve Hatcher and Rock Masters to Rochester. And that's where he met Devereaux. Devereaux said she had talked to Black a few times on the phone and thought that his voice sounded sexy but when they met, her being dressed down, Black didn't recognize her from her boxcovers.
According to Devereaux, Black was impressed that she wasn't all tarted up. Then the night before her scene she suffered a panic attack. "I knocked on his [Black's] door at the hotel, and I was, like, 'I can't do it...,'" Devereaux relates. According to Devereaux, Black came to her room and held her and she fell asleep in his arms. Black said he and Devereaux fucked the night before her scene in Cellar Dwellers and then right after the scene. Devereaux says Black was much different from her about to be ex-husband Patrick who was a pushover, Black being a "go-getter" and "very assertive". Devereaux also found Black very attractive.
Devereaux states that Black embezzled $70,000 from his father to shoot his first three videos. "I think his dad had put Rob in charge of the books- he trusted his son, you know?"
And Black cops to it, stating that his father told him he'd never make it starting a porn company that he tried and it didn't work.
"I kept wanting to make porn, so I embezzled a lot of money from my Dad," Black states. " 'Embezzle' is a much better word than 'steal' don't you think?"
Devereaux goes on to say that Black's family while being close isn't exactly your normal family. "In a normal family a child wouldn't embezzle money from his father, ha, ha, ha."
Black says that when the Cellar Dwellers movie was done, he and Devereaux went to the VSDA Show in Las Vegas to promote it. His father apparently discovered that he cooked the books. "I just cringed- like when you fuck up in grammar school," he says. Black says when he flew Black to Rochester, his parents basically disowned him. That's when he called Devereaux, who was now living in L.A., and basically moved in with her.
According to Devereaux, not even a month into the relationship, Black was already getting competitive with her. "And this guy is madly in love with me?" Devereaux admits she was basically in denial at that point, noting that Black was very possessive and wasn't allowed to "question his perfection".
"If I did, it was a betrayal," she said. However that's exactly what Devereaux did. Although Black made it clear that he wouldn't tolerate cheating, she did exactly that. She slept with his best friend, Fat Andy from New York.
