Los Angeles- Country singer Sara Evans remained in Los Angeles on Friday after her divorce complaint containing allegations of her husband’s affair with her children’s former nanny and his pornography fascination garnered national media attention.

Television shows such as “Entertainment Tonight,” “Inside Edition” and “Extra” delved into Evans’ divorce filing from her husband of 13 years, Craig Schelske, and her withdrawal from the ABC show “Dancing With the Stars” to give her family her full attention.

“She is doing as well as could be expected under the circumstances,” said her attorney, John Hollins Jr. “She is concerned about her children. ABC is going to do an interview with her that will air Tuesday night (on ‘Dancing With the Stars’).” She is expected to return to her Franklin home in a few days.

On Thursday, Evans filed a divorce complaint in Williamson County Chancery Court that alleged Schelske, 43, committed adultery, verbally abused her and frequently watched pornography at home.

In the filing, Evans, 35, accused Schelske of having an affair with their children’s former nanny and Evans’ close friend, who inspired her involvement in a national eating disorder organization. The complaint stated, “Wife further alleges that Husband has been guilty of adultery with Alison Clinton.”

The Tennessean could reach neither Clinton nor Schelske for comment. In a statement Friday to E! News, Schelske denied Evans’ allegations.

“I have made the decision to forgive Sara for the unfortunate campaign that she and her publicity advisers are currently waging,” Schelske said. “I adamantly deny the allegations that are being made.”

Evans, 35, thanked Clinton in the liner notes for her 2003 album Restless: “Alison Clinton (assistant/nanny/do it all/comic relief.”

Hollins would not specifically address questions about Clinton, but said, “There is a factual basis for all of the allegations made in this complaint.”

In September, Evans hosted Fashion for Every Body, which benefited the Eating Disorders of Tennessee and the Sara Evans Fund. (Evans was recently named an ambassador for the National Eating Disorders Association.) During that Nashville event, Clinton joined Evans onstage.

Evans told The Tennessean for a Sept. 3 story that she had a personal link to the disorder. “One of my best friends, who started out being my nanny and then we became best friends, developed anorexia and I watched her almost die.” Evans explained that the woman lost her nanny job because of anorexia. “It was this big mess and so sad because she was suffering and on her way to death.”

The filing contained several other damaging allegations against Schelske, including charges that he has on his computer at least 100 photographs of himself posing naked in an aroused state. There are several photographs of him having sex with other women, the filings stated.

“On his computers, husband maintains ‘Craigs Lists.’ Many of them involve requests for three party sex and anal sex. Husband’s ‘Craigs Lists’ are composed of personal ads on his personal sex engine involving him and prospective sex partners,” the documents stated.

The court document included an exhibit of nine recent “Craigs Lists” items stored in the temporary files of his computers. Craigslist is an online ad service.

On Sept. 28, one of the children confronted Schelske, at the couple’s Franklin home when he was watching pornography on TV, the filing stated. The couple’s children are 2, 3 and 7 years old.

In his statement provided to E! News, Schelske also said:

“As distressing as it is to have to communicate about this matter publicly, Sara has unfortunately become a dramatically different person over the last year and it is something we have struggled to deal with. Sadly, it appears we have failed. The best I can do at this difficult time is ask that people of faith would pray for her and for my family.”

Evans requested a temporary restraining order prohibiting Schelske from physically and verbally abusing her, exposing their children to pornographic materials of any kind, consuming alcoholic beverages to excess in front of Evans or the children, and taking their children to Oregon, which would interfere with her temporary and pending custody.

“Wife further alleges that husband has told wife that he is taking the children to Oregon and continually interferes with wife’s possession of and parenting time with the parties’ minor children,” stated the document.

The document alleged that Schelske frequently threatened Evans and “told her that she is crazy.” It also claimed he verbally and emotionally abused and harassed Evans.

Evans filed for divorce on the grounds of irreconcilable differences, inappropriate marital conduct and adultery.

“There’s nothing else she could do under the circumstances,” said Evans’ other attorney, John Hollins Sr.

Evans requested she be designated the primary residential parent and custodian of the children and that Schelske receive “reasonable residential parenting time” with their children.

She requested exclusive possession of their home and “reasonable child support.”

No court date has been set.

Schelske and Evans met when she moved to Nashville in 1991 and landed a waitress job at a Nashville Holiday Inn, where he also worked. After only six months in Nashville, she moved to Oregon with him. They married in 1993 and returned to Nashville in 1995 so that Evans could pursue a country-music career. She worked as a receptionist while he sold tires for Firestone until she was discovered by songwriter Harlan Howard.

Schelske has been president of a company that guides the entrepreneurial aims of Evans’ career, and he chairs a national political action committee dedicated to electing Republicans to federal and state office. •
