And this week’s Norman Einstein Award winner is the LA Times. They ran a front-page advertisement that resembled a news story and palmed it off as a news story. But a lot of people caught on to the fact that it was an ad for an NBC show. Publisher Eddy Hartenstein said he decided to run the NBC ad despite newsroom objections because he was trying to ensure that The Times could continue to operate.
Placing journalistic integrity at risk for a buck wins the LA Times the Einstein Award.

Creep of the Week winner is Francis Koening. The porn industry is always trying to copy the mainstream. AVN has its porn “Oscars,” and it seems just about every production company is doing some kind of knock-off parody of a television show.
It’s not surprising then that it appears the porn industry has its own Bernie Madoff knock-off, Francis Koening. This past January Frankie was quoted saying that his hedge fund, AdultVest, was up 50 percent last year. A very impressive return on investment since that was about the same time the world’s economy began doing its best impression of a Japanese Kamikaze. But, hey, Frankie invests in the porn business and porn is recession proof, right? At least that’s what Adam & Eve’s Phil Harvey tells us.
Now comes allegations from a former employee and an investor claiming that Adultvest is a fraud. The investor alleges that Koenig looted the fund’s coffers to finance his “fine art, expensive wines, cars, personal trips and alimony.” The former employee of Koenig’s firm also claims that the fund is quickly running out of money and the assets in which it has invested, including the domains iporn.com and handjob.com, are not worth what Koenig claims they are.
Usually when the porn industry does a mainstream knock-off it’s rather humorous and fraud isn’t reported to the FBI and the SEC.
Koening denies the allegations and everyone is innocent until proven guilty, but that doesn’t prevent him from winning the Creep of the Week award. Smile when you have your perp walk, Frankie.
