From www.nydailynews.com – The Nashville love nest where NFL star Steve McNair was murdered was a Spartan rented condo with no personal touches and a pile of men’s sneakers left on the floor, reports said Tuesday.
Grisly bloodstains marked the spot on a couch where cops think McNair was shot four times on Saturday.
The carpet in front of the couch also was soaked with blood – marking the place his 20-year-old girlfriend, Sahel Kazemi, crumpled after a single gunshot wound to the head, according to The Tennessean newspaper, which gained access to the crime scene.
Much of the couch had been cut up by detectives, but dark red blood stained the remaining cushions, according to the newspaper.
The paper described the condo – 6 miles from the palatial home McNair, 36, shared with his wife and four kids – as devoid of homey touches.
About a dozen liquor bottles sat on a kitchen counter. Also on the counter was a folded piece of paper that held a $20 bill and bore the words “Never broke.”
A pile of white men’s sneakers lay on the kitchen floor, the paper said.
Chunks of dry wall behind the couch had been cut away by investigators, who had written “strike mark #1,” “strike mark #2” and “stain #1” next to apparent bullet holes, according to the paper. Fingerprint dust was scattered throughout the apartment.
Investigators are treating the crime as an apparent murder-suicide, but have been hesitant to make an official ruling because family and friends have said Kazemi was not suicidal.
“We have been reluctant to call this a murder-suicide because we don’t have an apparent motive, but we’ll have a better idea by next week,” state Medical Examiner Bruce Levy told the Daily News, explaining that gun-residue tests should be wrapped up by next Tuesday.
Levy said the revelation that Kazemi recently had bought a gun is pointing to the conclusion that she killed McNair and then turned the gun on herself.
Kazemi, who also used the first name Jenny, had bought the gun from a private owner last Thursday night, not long after she was busted for drunken driving in an SUV with McNair.
It’s not clear if McNair’s wife, Mechelle, had known about his brazen affair with the Dave & Buster’s waitress.
Kazemi’s family said she believed McNair was getting a divorce. Court records do not show any pending split.
