Just as the company did with Digital Playground’s big-budget adult film Pirates in June 2006, MTI has acquired Digital Playground’s inevitable sequel, Pirates II: Stagnetti’s Revenge, and re-edited it into an MPAA-certified R-rated film.
Though the film stars the adult industry’s hottest talents (including Jesse Jane, Stoya, Tommy Gunn, Evan Stone, Belladonna, Sasha Grey and Katsuni), they’re not engaging all that much in the acts that made them stars. In fact, the sex scenes, which were very tame in the first MTI installment, are toned down even more here—late-night cable TV continues to deliver more sizzle. The sets, costumes and special effects are adequate, but not any more exciting than those in the first film.
Shelf Talk: Though the release of the first R-rated Pirates installment was a fresh (and profitable) experiment, this time around, it feels a little stale. Fans of the edited version of the first Pirates might be interested, but there’s a chance that the first one was enough. Your best bet will be to seek out potential new viewers who don’t dive into adult programming but are just curious enough to want to take a peek.
