BUTTONWILLOW, Calif. -- A teacher was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with a 12-year-old student, authorities said.
Sherry Brians, 41, a teacher at Buttonwillow School, had been under investigation for at least a week, said Sgt. Richard Wood of the Kern County Sheriff's Department.
The boy's mother went to authorities after finding a letter in her son's backpack that indicated the two had a romantic and physical relationship at the school, Wood said. Brians was arrested on suspicion of lewd acts with a child after voluntarily coming in for questioning, he said.
She was held on $100,000 bail, and faces a minimum of three years in prison if convicted.
