Lisle/Naperville, Illinois— from www.patch.com – A judge this week upheld a counter lawsuit by adult film star Jenna Jameson against the promoters of two canceled appearances at local movie theaters last year.
Ted Bulthaup, the owner of theaters in Lisle and Naperville, promoted meet-and-greets with Jameson and special screenings of her movie, but Jameson backed out with what she said was an illness. Bulthaup sued Jameson for breach of contract, alleging she skipped the events to attend a Hollywood birthday party.
Jameson later filed a countersuit relating to the failed attempts to reschedule the event within a timeframe allowed by the original agreement. The case returns to court in May.
Here’s some background to refresh your memory: all it a case of Hollywood vs. Hollywood.
The owner of two local movie theaters—Hollywood Palms in Naperville and Hollywood Boulevard in Woodridge—has sued adult film star Jenna Jameson for not showing up at two heavily promoted events in March.
The lawsuit, which also lists Jameson by her real name, Jenna Marie Massoli, claims she skipped out on contracted appearances at showings of her 2008 movie Zombie Strippers! so she could attend celebrity gossip columnist Perez Hilton’s birthday party. Hilton recently mentioned the lawsuit on his blog.
Jameson’s people, however, sent Hollywood management a four-line doctor’s note that stated Jameson had suffered a “medical emergency” and would not be working or traveling for the “foreseeable future,” court records show.
“Numerous pictures of [Jameson] soon surfaced on the Internet, all of which appear to show [Jameson] in good health,” the lawsuit states. “Simply put, Hollywood believes that [Jameson] was never ill. Rather, [Jameson] got an offer that she thought would be more fun and decided to leave Hollywood in the lurch.”
Hollywood contends it spent “tens of thousands” of dollars to promote the event, from which they guaranteed Jameson would earn at least $10,000. Hollywood was also to pay for travel and other expenses, records show.
Jameson, who is listed as a resident of Huntington Beach, CA, has not been served with the lawsuit. An attorney who has represented Jameson in other recent matters did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
A representative for Hollywood’s attorneys was checking on whether any comment would be offered.
Jameson’s paid appearance was to include fan interaction where she would autograph copies of her book How to Make Love Like a Porn Star and take photos with those attending the March showings of the movie.
Hollywood’s breach of contract claim seeks financial damages from Jameson for failing to provide documentation of her illness to cancel the appearance, for not sending copies of the book to event organizers and for damaging Hollywood’s reputation, the lawsuit states.
