NEW YORK (CBS) ― A woman who was caught on government tapes arranging a meeting between former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer and a prostitute is scheduled to be sentenced.
Temeka Lewis was scheduled to be sentenced in Manhattan on Monday.
She worked for the Emperors Club V.I.P. escort service when she set up the February 2008 meeting between the prostitute and “Client-9.” Spitzer was referred to as Client-9 in court papers.
Lewis pleaded guilty in May 2008 to criminal charges in a case brought against the escort service that delivered high-priced prostitutes to wealthy men.
Spitzer resigned as governor when it was revealed he was Client 9. He was never charged.
“I am deeply sorry that I did not live up to what was expected of me,” he said during the 11:45 a.m. announcement on March 12, 2008. “To every New Yorker and to all those who believed in what I tried to stand for, I sincerely apologize.”
“There is much to be done, and I cannot allow for my private failings to disrupt the people’s work.”
